How to choose a tree company

• Ask for certificates of insurance from the insurer, not a photo on a phone. Both general liability and workers' compensation.
• Get it in writing: scope, cleanup, stump, and haul-away all spelled out.
• Never pay a large deposit up front, especially to a crew that knocked on your door after a storm.
• If a company offers to "top" your tree, call someone else. Topping ruins trees.
